- 1 lb ground turkey or plant-based protein
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (or vegan alternative)
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 4 whole-wheat burger buns
- Optional: shredded lettuce, pickles, or coleslaw for garnish
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add chopped onion and bell pepper; sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
tir in minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Add ground turkey or plant-based protein to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon.
Stir in tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, chili powder, salt, and black pepper.
Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally
Toast the burger buns, if desired.
Spoon the Sloppy Jane mixture onto the buns. Garnish with your choice of toppings and serve warm.
- For a vegetarian option, use lentils or crumbled tofu instead of turkey.
- Add a pinch of cayenne for extra spice if desired.
