Ingredients
  

For the Chicken

  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

Barbecue Sauce Mixture

  • 1½ cups barbecue sauce
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder

Instructions
 

  • Lightly grease the slow cooker with olive oil.
  • Spread the sliced onion and minced garlic evenly across the bottom of the slow cooker.
  • Place the chicken breasts on top of the onions.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the barbecue sauce, chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, chili powder, and cayenne pepper.
  • Pour the sauce evenly over the chicken breasts.
  • Cover and cook on Low for 4–5 hours or High for 2½–3 hours, until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  • Remove the chicken and shred it with two forks, or slice it if preferred.
  • Return the chicken to the slow cooker and stir well to coat it in the barbecue sauce.
  • Cook on the Warm setting for an additional 10–15 minutes to allow the flavors to blend.
  • Serve hot on toasted buns, over rice, or alongside your favorite side dishes.
