  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cup granulated sugarx
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (optional for extra softness)
  • Extra sugar for rolling (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Mix Dry Ingredients:
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cream Butter and Sugar:
In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add Wet Ingredients:
Mix in the egg and vanilla extract, then stir in the sour cream if using.
  • Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients:
Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  • Form Cookies:
Scoop the dough into tablespoon-sized balls and roll in sugar if desired. Place them on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake:
Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are just lightly golden.
  • Cool and Serve:
Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Using sour cream adds extra softness but is optional.
  • For extra chewiness, slightly underbake and let cookies cool on the baking sheet.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
