Ingredients
  

Sweet Potato Base:

  • 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg (optional)

Pecan Streusel Topping:

  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp melted butter

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Boil the sweet potatoes until fork-tender, about 15 minutes.
  • Drain and mash them until smooth.
  • Add butter, brown sugar, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt; mix well.
  • Spread the sweet potato mixture into a greased baking dish.
  • In a small bowl, mix pecans, brown sugar, flour, and melted butter to create the streusel.
  • Bake for 30 minutes, or until the topping is golden and crisp.

Notes

  • For extra creaminess, add 2–3 tablespoons of cream cheese to the potatoes.
  • Replace brown sugar with maple syrup for a richer flavour.
  • A dash of clove or ginger adds depth.
  • Choose orange-fleshed sweet potatoes for best color and sweetness.
  • You can halve the pecan topping for a lighter version.
