- 2 oz tequila (preferably blanco or reposado)
- 1 oz fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
- 1 oz orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or Triple Sec)
- 1/2 oz agave syrup or simple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
- Ice
- Lime wedge, for garnish
- Salt, for rimming the glass (optional)
Rim your glass: Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass, then dip it into a plate of salt to coat the edge.
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
Add the tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, and agave syrup (if using) to the shaker.
Shake well for 15-20 seconds until the mixture is chilled.
Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice and strain the margarita into the glass.
Garnish with a lime wedge and serve immediately.
