  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Prepare and bake the cake according to package instructions in a 9×13-inch pan.
  • Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes, then poke holes all over using the handle of a wooden spoon.
  • Whisk together sweetened condensed milk, cooled espresso, and coffee liqueur if using.
  • Pour the coffee mixture evenly over the cake, allowing it to seep into the holes.
  • Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours.
  • Beat mascarpone until smooth. In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla to stiff peaks. Fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone.
  • Spread the mascarpone topping over the cake and dust generously with cocoa powder.
  • Chill for at least 1 additional hour before slicing and serving.
