- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (optional, for thicker compote)
- Pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg (optional)
Add berries, sugar, and lemon juice to a saucepan over medium heat.
Cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring gently, until berries release their juices.
Mash lightly for a smoother texture or leave chunky as desired.
Stir in vanilla and spices if using.
Add cornstarch slurry if thicker consistency is preferred; simmer 1–2 minutes more.
