  • 1 cup masoor daal (red lentils)
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 -inch ginger, grated
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
  • 1 tbsp oil or ghee
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice (optional)
  • Fresh cilantro for garnish

Instructions
 

  • Rinse the lentils thoroughly under running water until the water runs clear.
