For the Cake

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1½ cups whole milk

For the Buttercream Frosting

  • 2 cups unsalted butter, softened
  • 6 cups powdered sugar
  • 4 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

For the Piñata Filling

  • 2 cups colorful candy-coated chocolates
  • ½ cup rainbow sprinkles
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Chocolate gems
  • Small candies of choice

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).Grease and line six 8-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.Add egg whites and vanilla extract.Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk until combined
  • Divide the batter evenly into six bowls.
  • Pour each color into a separate cake pan.Bake for 12–15 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.Cool completely.
  • Using a round cookie cutter, cut a hole from the center of four cake layers.Leave the top and bottom layers whole.
  • Beat butter until creamy.Gradually add powdered sugar.Mix in cream, vanilla, and salt.Beat until fluffy.
  • Place the first whole cake layer on a cake board.Spread frosting evenly.Stack the four hollow layers, frosting between each layer.Fill the center cavity with candies and sprinkles.Place the remaining whole layer on top.
  • Apply a thin crumb coat and chill for 20 minutes.Finish with a smooth layer of buttercream frosting.
  • Decorate with rainbow swirls, sprinkles, candy pieces, or edible glitter.
  • Slice the cake and watch the colorful candy surprise spill out.
