Cuisine American
- 1 (2-3 lb) tri-tip roast
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 2 tsp kosher salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
- Optional: barbecue sauce for serving
Preheat your Traeger grill to 225°F (107°C).
While the grill preheats, pat the tri-tip dry with paper towels. Rub it with olive oil to help the seasoning stick.
In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika. Rub the seasoning evenly over the tri-tip.
Place the tri-tip directly on the grill grates, fat side up. Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the roast.
Smoke the tri-tip at 225°F until the internal temperature reaches 130°F for medium-rare, about 1 hour 30 minutes.
Remove the tri-tip from the grill and wrap it loosely in aluminum foil. Let it rest for 15 minutes to redistribute the juices.
Slice the tri-tip against the grain into thin slices and serve. Add barbecue sauce if desired.
-
For a bolder flavor, marinate the tri-tip overnight in your favorite marinade before seasoning and smoking.
-
Resting the meat is crucial to maintaining its juiciness. Don’t skip this step!
