For the Black Bean Patties
- 2 cups cooked black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
For Serving
- 4 vegan burger buns
- Lettuce leaves
- Tomato slices
- Red onion slices
- Avocado slices
- Vegan mayonnaise or vegan burger sauce
In a large bowl, mash the black beans using a fork or potato masher, leaving some texture for better consistency.
Add breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, tomato paste, soy sauce, smoked paprika, cumin, cilantro, salt, and pepper. Mix until combined.
Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into burger patties.
Refrigerate the patties for 15 minutes to help them firm up.
Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Cook patties for 4–5 minutes per side until crispy and golden brown.
Lightly toast the burger buns for extra flavor and texture.
Layer buns with lettuce, black bean patties, tomato, onions, avocado, and vegan sauce. Serve immediately.
